Having to be resourceful

Times are tough. My garden of flowers is almost non-existent. Its kind of in between season, too early for my annuals like sweet peas so ive had to become resourceful and see what I can find around my garden. Still, any flowers are good flowers to me.

Think I really need to make a trip to the flower markets and find some lovely roses to keep me happy over the weekend. Kellie x

What is the Best Laptop Computer Configuration in to buy

How to decide the best laptop/computer configuration in 2013?

Before buying laptops, you need to decide certain things for yourself like processor, graphics card, memory etc. With a few steps you will know the best configuration which is required for your laptop.
Go through given points, you will be in good condition to decide what is the best laptop and computer configuration.

1. The first thing that you need in your laptop and compute is  a processor. The best and latest configuration for a processor is the i5 which is more balanced. You will not be able to find out the difference between a i3 and i7 processor even while playing games, so this is only number increase not the configuration. The minimum number of frames that are required to form a video is 10. So any frame rate above 30 should give you a standard crisp and good video display anything above it is just a show off and does not make much difference to the viewer. If you play very big games, you need i3 or i5. I think HP laptop is a good choice if you want a powerful AMD processor and a great graphics card which give you a great high definition experience while playing games, watching movies, etc.

2. Now Coming to the graphics card: a decent laptop and computer configuration will exclude a graphics card and try to use the internal graphics hardware. A graphics card generally heats the processor and makes the life of a laptop very short. The more you use the graphics feature of a laptop more will it get heated and the faster will it become useless. If you really want to have a graphics card 1GB memory is more than enough. Anything more than that is never used by the programs even if available. Inspiron laptops are good choice, have an internal video graphics accelerator which shares 1GB of RAM to give you a good graphics output.

3. Coming to hard disk drive: a 500GB hard disk drive can store plenty of things half of which will be never used by you. There is no need to go for higher capacity drives unless you want to fill your laptop/computer with more than 450 high quality films. You never get the time to listen to even 1GB music for your whole life.

4. SRS surround sound is always an added benefit for watching movies and listening to your favorite music.

5. Anything above 6GB RAM is a waste of money and resources. Many computer magazines will tell you that only 3GB of the RAM is used by your computer with the heaviest of programs running on it. You can open 10 application on a computer having 512 MB RAM.

6. A good laptop/computer configuration should yield you at least 2.30 hours of power backup. Anything less than that is not negotiable. Battery will give you higher backup provided you do not have a graphics card which gives you higher performance.

7. Coming to Touch-pads: Dell gives you the advantage of having bigger touch-pads. Touch-pads are good to use when they are larger in size.

8. A laptop/computer should have at least 4 USB ports, 1LAN port, HDMI port, SATA port and another port for connecting to external video display devices like monitor or projector. Wi-Fi is a must for every laptop. A laptop without Wi-Fi is no laptop at all.

9. Laptop/computer with pre-installed OS saves you some money. You may install the OS later. But, machines with pre-installed OS comes with the added benefit of a motherboard CD. In the other case you need to individually download the motherboard CD and use its contents after burning it to a disc. Also a registered version of the OS that comes with a laptop with a pre-installed OS is definitely an added benefit.

I think this is the best laptop configuration for laptop/computer users. Comment your views.

Verandas and landscapes How to create a beautiful exterior and a great living space

Landscaping has become one of the favorite DIY and design trends in recent years, and it’s also become an area of design which is considered somehow unaffordable. That’s way off the mark. You can add a lot to your home environment, with just simple but versatile verandas or pergolas. You can also do your design in affordable stages, and reduce outlays to suit your budget.
Landscaping and verandas
Landscaping is actually based on features. The elements of design will be relatively simple.
For example:
• Lawn
• Garden beds
• Rockeries
• Fountain
• Border features and fencing
The idea is that a veranda will complement these features, and provide a transitional environment from the house to the garden landscaping. The designs are naturally interlinked.
If you’ve seen those fabulous old style verandas which seem to create another part of the garden, all decked out with hanging pots, the faithful old family table and bric a brac, you’ll know the design mix a veranda can achieve. It’s not as difficult as it looks. Modern verandas have morphed into a design feature of much the same kind, just slightly more complex.
The modern veranda is now part veranda, part living space, and often enclosed to some degree. This is the “sunroom effect”, based on the fact that many sunrooms usually started as verandas, and people liked them so much they evolved into home extensions.
Design structure
Whatever sort of veranda you have, you can reinvent it into any form, and scape around it as you wish. Forget the mythology of massive expense and unspeakably fashionable bruises to your house budget. The design structure for mixing landscaping and verandas is extremely simple and you can do it at your own speed and on any budget.
You need:
A concept and a look to work with. Pro landscapers work with a plan from the start, and they just develop it into a landscape design.
For example:
The veranda faces south with a nice view. It’s a solid timber design, aged treated pine. It gets heat in one season and cold in another. The basic concept is to provide screening while keeping the view. The homeowner starts by installing some box frame covers with adjustable screens, very cheap, made to measure.
The screens also shield the house from hot and cold. The landscaping, external, now uses plantings to create further cover, like an ivy trellis, a few Chinese pines (small trees which as so beautiful they fit any design and are absolutely zero maintenance.)and some trees outside the view which also function as flower beds while blocking out the hot glare and sun angles and the cold blasts.
Net cost? Some time, but not a lot of money. The result is a beautiful landscape, made to personal tastes, and an upgraded, all-weather veranda.

Pergolas

Pergolas

One of the most loved landscaping icons, pergolas are an additional cover feature, and you can produce the most beautiful covered paths with a pergola, using roses, bougainvilleas, and other climbers.
If you want your place landscaped your way, start with your veranda, and consider what you’d like. The rest is incredible fun

Escape to Bermuda

I just got back from a short vacation to Bermuda with my husband. We left the kids to reconnect and celebrate our 18 year anniversary!
Pink sand and turquoise water is a winning combination. As soon as we got to our hotel we immediately relaxed! These two photos are from Tuckers Point. It is a gorgeous hotel.
As soon as we settle in, we both always look at the real estate guides; we are always interested in properties. This particular home caught our eye. I guess you could say its our hobby, because of course we could never afford to buy such an extravagant retreat.
This home was designed and influenced by renaissance architecture. If you look beyond the gorgeous furniture and notice the architecture itself, the room is quite grand. I love the fireplace and the french doors. But what really caught my attention was the ceilings - every room in this estate has interesting ceilings. The wood ceiling above really warms up the opulent space.
Perhaps the most impressive ceiling was in the dining room. The coved ceiling was illuminated in gold leaf.
The kitchen ceiling was also an interesting work of art. I loved the wood design and the way it was white washed and distressed. Of course the zinc hood made me swoon.
I just fell in love with this office! The doors, the view and the ceiling -stained the same color as the ocean. Just beautiful!
I really like the relaxed feeling of this guest room. It is has the classic wood/tropical ambiance. Another room with spectacular ceilings.
Overall the home is a bit too opulent for me but they seemed to get the bedrooms right! Here the view in the master bedroom takes center stage - and the coffered ceiling is nice too.
This is the lovely view off the master bedroom terrace - beautiful iron work on the railings. Again notice the ceiling, clearly no detail was overlooked.
Of course I could get used to cocktails by the pool...but its back to reality for me. If you want to dream a little, check out the rest of this estate here. End of the year school activities with kids are keeping me busy since I returned, but it was a wonderful anniversary trip!!

I always wanted to try this

Ever since I saw Martha Stewart feature make your own "mercury glass" with paint.  I have always been curious about giving it a try.  Martha gives krylon.com as a source for the spray paint called Looking Glass - Mirror -Like Paint.  I had a really hard time trying to locate it, I actually ended up purchasing a can on Ebay for $11.00.

here is a grouping of mercury glass containers featured in Martha Stewart magazine.

the paint can is small only 6 oz.  Enough to spray a large piece of glass and one container

I wanted to see what it would do to an old cabinet door

this was a free door that someone gave me, so I had nothing to lose if it did not work

I used frog tape along the edge before I sprayed on the paint.  I lightly misted the glass with a tiny bit of water (just like Martha did)  to make the mirrored surface look aged.

the trick is layering on the paint in very light coats, making sure that each coat dries for a few minutes between spraying.  I did 5 very light and quick layers.  The side that you spray looks dull, but when you turn it over - sure enough there is a mirrored surface.  You cant really tell from the photos, but it looks like an antique finish.

you can see how well it reflects

oh - I see an old gray glass door cabinet in my future with mirrored doors.

I made this with the left over paint just to see what it would look like.  It had a previous life as a giant water globe holding a preserved rose.  I have no idea what I will be doing with it now.

If this paint was easier to find - hint hint Krylon people - I would use it again.  For more ideas and directions on using Looking Glass Mirror Like Paint see the Krylon Website.

How To Choose Lamps For A Bedroom

When it comes to bedrooms and dorms, the flash system is crucial for people to live well. Although, even if the flash system depends on a lot of time on the type of dorm, and the number of people, and the ease of following tips, we assume that we are talking about normal for a bedroom, 1-2 person or torque.

So if any of the details to keep in mind when it comes to decorating your dorm lights?

First, the most important is clearly the dominant color in the room. For example, you can not choose green lights, if the dominant color is red, and green if you can choose the dominant color is a shade of green. But you must decide first on how strong or weak, should be light.

If you need a lot of bulbs, and then an opaque material does not help much. Also, if you turn lights low, do not get too much advantage either. Although, if you need a romantic atmosphere, and then the lights would be more than perfect.

Suppose you need a romantic atmosphere. Normally, the bulbs not be economically them - because they are strong enough, despite their reduced ability - and the lights, materials may be different, but they all meet the same characteristics: Although a glass or painted silk a little opaque, in order to create a warm atmosphere in the room. Normally, a lamp in two different sides of the room does. Similarly, people can choose to mount their lights in the ceiling, but before you do, they must consider one thing: placing opaque lamps in the ceiling can reduce more than a little light in space , although there are several lights. Also, would the romance is supposed to be in the room can be damaged, making the lamps in the ceiling is perhaps not the best choice for those who are eager to have an intimate atmosphere in their room.

Of course, before choosing lamps, owners should also discuss this issue, how long they intended to keep the furniture in your room. Otherwise, if you change everything, just after you install the lamps and the whole atmosphere is different, so its more than likely something is going to seem strange in this room, and most people who enter and even owners have the feeling that something is out of place.

Bedroom 7 Zen ideas to inspire II

Bedroom is not just another room in our home, but integral to our lifes daily unwinding. Its should be the one place where you can let worries go and relax in its peaceful atmosphere. Zen is a perfect decor inspiration for bedroom designs. Think about serenity, uncluttered thoughts, peaceful retreat..a getaway from all the outside stress. The flow of energy is uninhabited, and restful.

The key to having a zen aura is letting energy flow, uncluttered simple layout, minimal furniture , lots of light and air with balanced colors. A spot of greenery or flowing water will add to the serenity. It should feel like nature.

Check out my earlier Zen ideas for living room and bedroom for more inspiration!!

The colors in this design is so serene. Blue like skies with sunlight and green fronds, lots of positive energy here. Love the simple elegant furniture design. Very stylish and Zen!

Green is a very soothing color. Its a gentle shade which is relaxing and easy on eyes. The bedroom set in light color wood and compliments the lovely wall color. Nothing too bright or complex, yet packs an impact. Love the framed leaves artwork too.

Yin yang, and how they compliment each other. This Zen bedroom decor has accents in black and white and they balance so beautifully to bring harmony. I love everything about it. The sensible space saving furniture, clean lines, lovely airy window and the energy of yellow. Perfection!

Zen bedroom design can also be modern and stylish. This design has all the key aspects; open layout, ample light, few but impressive furniture and balance of color. Black and white uber stylish bedroom with a splash of blue. Perfect abode for recharging.

The bedroom design is so stunning! Charcoal gray interior walls juxtaposed with bright light is very impressive. There is a lot of diffused lightning in the room and simple elegant furniture. The bamboo shoots against the natural light makes for an interesting accent.

The simple, functional elegance of this bedroom is effortlessly beautiful. The color palate is neutral and the room is well decorated without over crowding. Each piece belongs and is integral to the decor. Dont miss the full length french window.

This bedroom design is streamlined and so delicate. The ivory walls is like a canvas which allows each furniture and accent to show up. A little goes a long way. Simple Chinese lanterns and tatami mat complete the zen look.

Try some form of  Zen in your home decor and lives. I am sure you will love the value it will add to you and your loved ones. The energy will fill your homes and lives, and leave you more happy and peaceful. De-clutter and let the energy flow, today!

Heres What Youre Saying The How To !

(Country Home)
I have gotten a tremendous amount of mail on my recent Dutch Doors post. Its seems this charming design element really resonated with all of you. First I heard from Karla at Its the Little Things That Make a House a Home blog. This very talented lady found a wonderful old solid wood door and created her own Dutch Door. Read the "How To" HERE! The photo above is her new Dutch door - isnt it fabulous?!! Thanks so much, Karla, for sharing it with us! Next I heard from a reader whose friend recently installed interior Dutch Doors in each of her childrens bedrooms. She thought it was a fabulous way to be able to walk by their rooms and not see the mess on their floors!! Having two pre teens, I loved that idea!!
Then I heard from a reader who just wanted to bring in light to an otherwise dark space, but keep the dogs inside! She also loved the feeling of being open to the outdoors - and no bugs! Wonderful! Everyone agreed that no matter what the primary use, Dutch Doors added a charming design element to their homes. A warmth and personality all their own - and that my friends, is what decorating is all about!!

I loved hearing from each and every one of you!
